有名なI Have a Dreamの演説はワシントンのリンカーン記念堂前で１９６３年の８月に行われました。その後１９６４年に公民権法(Civil Rights Act)が制定され、法の上の人種差別が終わりを告げ、その年ノーベル平和賞受賞。１９６８年４月遊説中のテネシー州メンフィスのモーテルで暗殺され亡くなった。享年３９歳。
ということは３０代前半でI Have a Dreamの演説をされていたということですね。１９６４年は日本では東京オリンピック、新幹線（東京ー大阪間）が開通した年です。
１９６３年８月 ワシントンでの演説より（なんとか訳してみました）
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed.
We hold these truths to be self-eveident, that all men are created equal.
私には夢がある。いつかこの国が立ち上がり、すべての人は平等であるという信条を真実にする日がくることを。
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former
slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
私には夢がある。ジョージアの赤い丘で、かつての奴隷の子孫と奴隷を所有した子孫が兄弟のように同じテーブルにつく日がくることを。
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation, where they will not be judged by the color of the skin but by the content of their character.
私には夢がある。私の４人の小さな子供たちが、いつかこの国で、肌の色でなく人格で評価される日がくることを。
